Free public-record check

Verify a dentist

We check: state license · board disciplinary actions · public news · credentials · public reviews.

Why verification matters

A 60-second check beats a 30-minute consult regret.

Dental implants are a $20,000–$40,000 decision. The state dental board publishes every dentist’s license status, disciplinary history, and complaint record — but most patients never look. We make it instant, free, and explainable, with a source URL behind every fact. We’re editorial by design: we surface the public record and let you decide.

Methodology

How our vetting agent works

Our automated due-diligence agent searches public records via Claude Sonnet 4.5 with web search. Every finding includes a verifiable source URL — no guesses, no opinions.

  • License lookup

We pull active license status, expiration, and any restrictions directly from the state's public dental-board verification portal.

  • Disciplinary records

We check the state board's published disciplinary actions and complaints database for sanctions, suspensions, or formal complaints.

  • Public news & sanctions

We search news archives for malpractice settlements, regulatory actions, and significant public-record events from the last five years.

  • Credentials & NPI

We confirm claimed credentials against AAID, AAOMS, and ABOI/ID directories, and verify the NPI number via the NPPES registry.

Frequently asked

Honest answers, no asterisks.

Is this free?

Yes, completely. We don't charge consumers — ever. ImplantAuthority earns referral fees from listed dentists and financing partners when patients choose them. The verification tool is editorial, not a sales channel.

Where does the data come from?

We aggregate from state dental boards' public license-lookup sites, the NPPES NPI registry, state board disciplinary records, and reputable news sources. Every fact we surface includes a source URL you can click to verify.

How accurate is it?

Accurate enough to be useful as a first step — not a substitute for direct verification with the state dental board. We surface what the public record says; we don't make medical judgments or vouch for treatment quality.

What can you check?

Active state license status, board disciplinary actions, malpractice settlements that became public, news coverage, NPI registration, and claimed credentials. We don't check anything that isn't on the public record.

What can't you check?

Treatment quality, individual patient experiences, anything covered by HIPAA, anything not in public databases, or anything an in-person evaluation would reveal. We're a starting point, not the final word.

Why might a check come back inconclusive?

Common reasons: the name is ambiguous (e.g. "John Smith" in a populous state), the state board's lookup site is down, or the dentist is too new to appear in public databases yet. The honest answer is "unable to verify" — and we say so.

Direct verification: This tool is not a substitute for direct verification with your state dental board. License records and disciplinary actions sit with the board, which is the authoritative source.
